When organic traffic falls, the first useful question is where the loss began. A site-wide drop needs a different investigation from a decline affecting one collection, a few articles or a particular search market.

This solution design starts with that distinction. It organizes the investigation around affected pages, search queries, dates and recent website changes before moving into technical fixes or content revisions.

The scope connects diagnosis with implementation: a prioritized issue list, page-level recommendations, release checks and a measurement plan. Each proposed change has a reason, an owner and a way to verify that it was applied correctly.

The objective is to give the business a defensible recovery roadmap and a cleaner search experience for visitors. Progress is assessed against a documented baseline rather than a promised ranking or recovery date.
A traffic decline often produces a long list of possible fixes without a clear explanation of the problem. Teams may rewrite content, change URLs or replace page templates before establishing which pages lost visibility and when.

The challenge is to separate measurement issues, technical faults, content gaps and changes in search demand, then focus effort where the evidence points.
Establish the baseline
Review the timing and scope of the decline. Compare affected pages and queries across relevant periods, accounting for seasonality and changes to analytics or site structure.

Technical investigation
Review crawl access, indexability, redirects, canonical signals, internal links and sitemap coverage. Check whether recent releases or migrations coincide with the affected pages.

Content review
Assess priority pages against the questions visitors need answered. Identify outdated information, overlapping pages and sections that need clearer purpose or stronger supporting detail.

Prioritized implementation
Group recommendations by evidence, business importance and effort. Document URL decisions and validation steps before publishing changes.

Follow-through
Maintain a change log, check that intended fixes remain in place and review affected page groups over time. Use the findings to decide the next round of work.
Planned deliverables
A traffic-loss diagnosis, affected-page inventory, prioritized technical backlog, content revision briefs and a recovery measurement plan.

Success measures
Visibility and clicks for the affected page groups, relevant organic enquiries, resolution of identified technical issues and performance against comparable baseline periods.
